At the bottom of the screen, an active card sets the rank you can play. You click any card in the layout that is exactly one rank higher or lower than that active card. For example, if the active card is a 7, you can select a 6 or an 8. Each selection becomes the new active card, so the sequence you choose directly shapes what remains available.
